Hope

Today, we very unexpectedly and unaccountably lost our 17 year old son.
He was perfectly healthy, an athlete, and a completely beautiful fine young man. And with no rhyme or reason, we found him this morning, already gone home to be with God.

He loved my quilts and indulged my quilting! :-) He'd picked one for his bed, and I finally, finally got the top done earlier this year with hopes to quilt it for him before Christmas.  He never complained that I was UFO poor or that his top would get pushed back for other projects, other exciting new adventures or techniques or tools.

He was the joy of our home -- a prankster and a ham, with a servant's heart and compassion for stray cats and hurting people, and every single person he met found a friend.  He was a total extrovert.  Every meet he ran in cross country, every 5-K, every Boot Camp, he shook hands and said, "I'm Sam. Who are you?! It's my pleasure to meet you!"

He loved God with all his heart and soul.  When I started this blog last year, he thought he'd give it a try.  We're homeschoolers -- so yeah, that counts! LOL  These were his "Things to Think About."  along with random thoughts on "Chuck" and running and what not here.

His quotes on Facebook included lyrics from Christian rapper LaCrae:
"Living to know God, dying to make Him known."
That was our beloved Sam.

Welcome home, baby.  We'll be along shortly.

"‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’"  Matthew 25:21

Please lift up our family in your prayers.  We are so blessed. We are so grateful. We are so humbled to have been Sam's parents, caretakers of him for a while.

13Now also we would not have you ignorant, brethren, about those who fall asleep [[a]in death], that you may not grieve [for them] as the rest do who have no hope [beyond the grave]. 14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep [[a]in death].  I Thessalonians 4:13-14 (Amplified)

Blessings and Peace,

I am touched deeply by your words of your beloved Sam. God is the God of all comfort and you know Him as did Sam. My mother's heart is grieving with you as I cannot imagine, also being the mother of two sons. Know that our prayers lift you up to our Father in Heaven. God's Spirit is within you and does carry you during this time. I know you are resting in that and have the peace that passes all understanding. Sam is an amazing young man and will be missed by many, but he would have been the first one, I believe to say let it be me, if it uplifts your name and brings more into the kingdom. Bless your family and we love you.

naMary Lou, this post sums up Sam so well. We will all miss him here but there is such joy in knowing that he is at the feet of Jesus and loving every second of it! He was a blessing to all who knew him and that magical smile of his will never leave my mind. Love to The Casada family from The Hobbs'!

I can totally relate to the terrible loss you've suffered. I lost my 23-year old daughter 7 1/2 years ago with the very same circumstances. I found her on the floor of her room where she had fallen and died the night before. No reason could be found through autopsy. I have heard of something called ventricular arrythmia that can't be detected unless one is checking for it at the very time it occurs. Some things aren't ours to know. I do not know what you are going through, as I have never lost a son, but my heart goes out to you and your family. I found this passage several years ago after my father passed away. I hope it brings some comfort to you and your family.

"What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead."

May the Lord bless and keep you at this time. My own son passed away from cancer at the age of 32 just two years ago. God is my strength, my hope, and my promise as I can see He is yours. Grief is a journey and a process. It ebbs and flows but does not end. The lesson that I have from Stephen's death is that in ALL things, God will be revealed. I send you love and prayers.

Dear Mary Lou, meeting you through your blog uplifted me so much this morning, yet you have just experienced the greatest loss on this earth. Your faithful words and trust in Jesus Christ our LORD and savior are beyond courageous. We homeschooled our three sons who are now in college and know that you had that precious time with your beloved son. My heart is broken for you and your family, but my prayers to GOD our for his grace to cover you with the certainty of being with your son for eternity.

Mary Lou, my eyes are wet with tears for you as a mother who will miss her son so much, but joy knowing that he is in heaven waiting for you. Thank you for sharing so eloquently your faith. This saying comes to my mind: Mothers hold their children in their hands for a little while but in their hearts forever.

Loosing a child is like aquiring an angel. We all want the child, but most of us are not ready for angels...
I do trust in God to give you courage to stand up to embrace your angel.

I went to your site from Stash Manicure because of the verse you put at the end and was shocked to find that you lost your son (on my birthday). I am so blessed by your confidence in the Lord. I am with you in your beliefs and will pray that you will continue to know His comfort that goes beyond all reason. Underneath are His everlasting arms as you walk through this valley.

Even in your time of loss, you are a blessing to others with your faith. I am humbles by your faith and praising God in your loss. It makes me think of the song - "He gives and takes away, my heart will choose to say, Blessed be the name of the LORD!" I praise God for your faithfulness.

The sudden departure is sometimes hard to understand - don't go there. Put your hand in Heavenly Fathers hand when sorrow overcomes and He will sustain you and give you peace. Your love of your son and knowing where he has gone comes shining through - you are cared about and will be remembered in my prayers.

You don't know me yet, but I'm lifting you in my heart and prayers. I just stumbled onto your blog during a quilty surf. I'm so sorry for your loss. Even with your faith and assurance of future reunion, it has to hurt more than anything else could.

I'm adding your blog to my blogroll because I see so many commonalities to my own life. We homeschooled for many years. Thank the Lord for bringing that into our lives against any expectation that I'd ever do that! Even more funny - I've been working on my body this year for health also - same body type, it looks like, same measurements work, same start weight in January and same current weight with very similar pattern of loss. I was starting to wonder if I'd written that page up myself!!

When you're ready, perhaps you can swing by my place. We could be quilty friends. And health buddies. :)

Your words carry such love and conviction of a life lived in a way to have impacted people deeply.

Your son must make you very, very proud....both in his life and in his testimony of assurance of life eternal. One that he has just begun.
Can you just imagine? Knowing that death is no longer in the equation? So hard to fathom.... But wonderful too.

May God allow you to know His presence now....and later. It sounds as if you have awesome friends to be there for you in the months to come.
