Do Nothin's

I've got a serious case of the do-nothin's!

Do you ever get them? It's not the blues exactly. It's not that I'm all that tired or frustrated or mad or lazy.  I just don't feel like doing ANYthing!!  Do you ever get afflicted with the malady?  Maybe it's hormonal....It does seem to come around with some regularity. Yuck.

I've had them for two or three days now.  I sit at the computer and read...following along with tears (like Teresa's mishap with her All Around Town quilt top) and with triumphs (like Thelma's Quilter's Tale) and wondering at the creativity and beauty of other people's projects!  I wanna do something fabulous like that!

I'm not lacking inspiration or things to do!  I have the UFO Challenge quilt #10. It's called Moon and Star Whimsey from the book Relax and Quilt.

I have only to add some moons and stars to the borders and it will be ready to quilt for Sam.  I've done almost all the machine applique, and it shouldn't take too much time to get the remainder finished.

If I will get started!

Sam has a UK Wildcats print picked out for the backing.  This is one he's wanted for a while.  You can tell by the wrinkles and fold lines that it's been in the closet for too long.

I have the mystery quilt that I'm leading for the Mountain Laurel Quilters...Pieces cut, next steps planned.  If you wanna follow along, I've added a page above with the fabric requirements and February's directions.  Each month the next step will be added until we finish the quilt in October! I LOVE the fabrics I've selected.  But I'm not in the mood today.  Sigh.

I found a pattern to use with my Brown Bag Quilt fabrics...

It's called Granny's Jam Lap Quilt from Laps from Fats by Ellen Replogle.  I think it will work beautifully with the variety of fabrics I was sent and the coordinating prints I've added from my own stash.

I just don't wanna sew today.
Or do the bills.
Or do my taxes.
Or do my laundry.
Or load the dishwasher.
Or take the boys anywhere.

I wanna sit and think or dream or leaf through magazines and blogs.  I wanna play Spider Solitaire and eat the Turtles in the lovely pink and brown box that Emily bought me for Valentine's Day (not promising for this week's weight loss...)

I was reading in Ecclesiastes today.  "To everything there is a season..."  So true! Today is NOT my season for productivity! :-)  The Psalmist writes, "Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you."  (Psalm 116:7)

So today is a mental health day. A day of rest.  A day to remember how good I've got it!  Lord willing, tomorrow and all the days that follow will have sufficient work and inspiration to keep me busy. I'll be sewing again shortly....I get a little crazy if I go too long without touching my fabrics, making something.

Who knows! With a little soul rest, I might even tackle the taxes!!
.... Um...No.  Let's not go so far as all that, OK!?

Blessings!

Oh - an attack of the "cant-be-bothereds" - I get those from time to time - so hard to get motivated to do anything......I thought last night I should pay some bills or sort out some filing at home...nah.....didn't happen...nor did I stitch....but I did have an early night! I am sure by now you are back to sewing...or at least eating chocolate!

I have days like these! You are entitled to have a do nothing day or three....You are holding down the fort and handling so much upon your shoulders! It is absolutely ok to say "I NEED A BREAK!" You don't need to conquer it all....just relax a bit and enjoy each day even if it is a do nothing.

Wow! Been there, felt THAT! This may be sexist to say, but I really think this is a female only feeling. I go through this and try to talk to my husband about how I feel, and he looks at me like I have snakes coming out of my head. I've tried EVERYTHING to get out of that funk...sometimes I think that explains the existence of our stashes. Fabric retail therapy is certainly something I've tried. I also think that is why there are a couple of UFOs on my shelf that make me ask "what was I thinking?!?" Since I have OCD, I sometimes can get out of my funk by organizing something, especially something like fabric or scraps. Steve can tell when I'm feeling funky...he opens his sock drawer and it looks like Martha Stewart's been there.

Maybe that "nudge" to do nothing is someone saying that we should do nothing for a while and recharge our ever-moving, ever multi-tasking souls. I am so used to going a mile a minute, going in many directions at one time. Maybe it is a day to do nothing and try to enjoy it.

Nah...wouldn't work for me either.

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

ACK, I've had those feelings quite often but usually it involves housework. Bob is threatened to not move anything so the dust rings don't show LOL. You will perk up eventually, you just need some mental days off, as your said :0)

Oh yes, I have those days. Then when I get busy again I think about all I could've gotten done on my 'day off'. But I figure the time off must be necessary to recharge. It's great that you aren't fussing about it, but using the day to rest and count your blessings.

Everyone needs a chance to recharge - so relax and enjoy it! I find that I get that feeling when I have so many things hanging over my head that I can't decide where to start - once I pick one project to move to the front burner, the feeling goes away and I get excited about everything again. Today, unfortunately, I've got to get excited about cleaning the house - can you tell that I'd rather be playing on the computer??? Have a great day!! "To everything there is a season..."

Nothing at all wrong with a 'do nothing' day. How many 'do EVERYTHING' days have you had? The days where you accomplish more than one one person should ever have to? There has to be balance in life and the do nothing days brings balance. ;)

Oh, I can echo everyone's comments. It must be a female thing. I usually end up watching an old movie - something familiar and then I either have a good laugh or a good cry. It will get better, rest.

Didn't our Lord say 'Come aside and rest a while'? Sometimes a good idea - recharging the batteries. You obviously need it!!

A mental health day is in order! Or maybe even a couple of them!
I think we can all relate to feeling this way.
I love your UFO and look forward to seeing the top completed before the end of the month.

I had that exact same day yesterday and I so agree - to everything there is a season. I spent hours reading and I can't even remember the last time I did that. I think it happens to me when I don't see the sun for a while. blessings, marlene

I think it's fine to have some do-nothing time - you'll get your mojo back soon enough! I found your blog not too long ago and am enjoying it! I also have Moon & Stars UFO - I love the quilt, but got stuck on the continuous applique vine on the border - it's made but I'm having trouble putting it on!. Any tips? Are you doing yours by hand or machine? Thanks! o:)

Oh, I have these today. I bought groceries this morning and have been battling a head ache all day. Now I feel like doing nothing. I have played on the computer, made origami Yoda's, played games with my youngest. Now to more doing nothing.

Ditto, ditto, ditto to pretty much every other comment already left. I agree that I think it's a lady's thing. Hormonal? Who knows. We who are menopausal get the do-nothing feeling, and the young mothers with their little kids, and the mothers with their high-school age kids. Full range of ages, it seems. It's similar to losing your mojo -- just different phrase-ology.
The most important thing to me is to keep it in perspective, be thankful for all the good things in my life, and the funky blues also will pass.

I have these days often (I blame hormones). It's especially hard when your husband is a very driven person, who never lacks motivation and would rather work than anything. Oh well, I figure whatever doesn't get done will still be there tomorrow! :)

some of us "Busyies" (that's me!) find it so hard to NOT BE BUSY! even when Our mind and body and soul need the rest to just do nothing :) LOL! Revel in your do nothing days because it's really all about recharging the body and creativity. Guilt free laziness LOL! I'm all for it!!

You're certainly hitting home with your readers. I hate that feeling, where nothings really wrong, but nothings really right and you just don't want to be bothered. Sometimes it comes for an afternoon, and sometimes it hangs around for a while. Hope it leaves your house soon!
