Converted! and the Big Giveaway!

Well, I have crossed over to the dark side! :-D
After watching all the beautiful quilts blocks and panels and patterns come to life at Glorious Applique, I decided to take the plunge and experiment a little with all that color.

I ordered a set of fat quarters from Etsy -- a mixture of Kaffe and Philip Jacobs fabrics.  I found one (1) piece in all my stash -- a beautiful Coleus print with rich, stunning color, and thought, "Why the heck not!?!" :-D  Then lo and behold, my dear friend, Pat from upstate New York (that's how we think of her, you know -- she isn't like us native KYians, more's the praise! LOL), visited the Wilderness Road Quilt Company in Danville, KY and brought me back ELEVEN (11!!!) fat quarters and would not hear of my paying for them.  VERY good friend!! LOL   Just look at the fabrics:

And then I found other surprises.  In the photo, the large scale leafy print was what I had in my stash; beside it are the fat quarters I ordered, then on the far right, the fq's that Pat gave me.  I started looking at the rest of my stash and found, on the far left -- would you believe those are Thimbleberries fabrics!?!? From the Flying Colors line!  Bright, rich color in sorta tone-on-tones. Isn't that a hoot!? I'm not so far from my quilting roots, since Thimbleberries were the first fabrics I got crazy about! LOL

In front are some batiks I picked up and they look like they might work along with the others.  All these are for the Roseville Album quilt designed by Kim McLean.

I've got a pile of reproduction fabrics I'm looking at for this quilt, too.  What fun!!  Maybe I'll do both!

And since I was the grateful recipient of Pat's generosity, it's only fitting that today kicks off the Fall into Fall Giveaway!  Go to the site and check out all the bloggers participating in the giveaway.

I mentioned in my Anniversary Blog (see it here) that God dealt with us about finances some years ago.  One of the things He spoke to us about was giving.  Listen to what Paul says to the church at Corinth:

"...see that you also excel in this grace of giving...For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich."  (II Corinthians 8: 7b and 9)

If we want to be like Jesus, we have to be givers! :-)  So cool!
So I have THREE different prizes I'll be drawing for and giving away on October 15th!
Here's what you do to qualify:

Leave a comment for me.  I love to hear from you!

That's it!! All you have to do.
If you want additional opportunities to win (another "ticket" in the pot, as it were) you can do either or both of the following:
  1. List me on your blog roll! :-)  That will lead other people here to see if they like what I say.  Just leave an additional comment saying you've added me to your roll. :-)
  2. Refer a friend!  Leave a comment that says, "I told Suzie Q. Quilter to come on over!"  I'll add you to the pot, then when Suzie pops over, you and she will both get an additional chance at a prize!
Here are the three prizes:

  • 2 Charm packs of Simple Abundance by Bonnie of Cotton Way & Camille of Thimble Blossoms for Moda

  • 7 - fat quarters from Kay England's Bread and Butter line
and

  • 28 different Thimbleberries remnants/strips (most are 5-6 inches wide! with a few that are a bit smaller) from the 3's Company line.
I can't wait to see who shows up!
Blessings!

Well, I must have known that you were posting your next blog, Mary Lou, because here it is just 14 minutes later, and I've read it, love it and have to comment! When it comes to quilting, I am sometimes surprised to see that others struggle with similar issues. I am not a "wild child" when it comes to fabric. Keep it muted, keep it saturated, and keep it traditional. I absolutely love Civil War Reproductions, but anything flashy and I'm saying, no, no, no! All that changed recently when I saw a BOM from Quilters Corner called Floral Fantasy! The colors were so out there and in combinations I would never consider! But, I signed up, and when the first installment came in the mail, out I went to purchase the background fabric. That was probably the hardest step of all because the background shown in the sample was a wild tone on tone that I thought was the ugliest fabric I had ever seen. I thought, I'll just purchase something taupe"ee" and that will tone down all that other wildness going on as well. But, while shopping, and at my local W***art, of all things I found a fabric so similar I had to buy it. After all, I reasoned, wasn't that at least in part what drew me to the quilt? So, I'm on my second block, living wild and wonderful and loving it! I can see from your budding stash that you will too! Happy quilting and congratulations on taking the wild plunge!

I am living in Malaysia but during my elementary years my dad brought the whole family to stay at Madison WI while he was doing his doctorate. Actually my whole life before that was in between Malaysia and the States. We have stayed in ALberta (my birth place) and Los Angeles.

I started quilting (by hand) while I was in school when we are back to Malaysia. I stopped when I finished school and dabbled in croche/knitting//and most recently tatting and making my own hand dyed threads.

In 2008 (at the final stages of completing my master's degree) I bought a new Janome MC6500 and until now have been quilting. I have made nearly ten quilts from king size to baby sizes. I hope that my craft can pay for itself so now also making plenty of toddler size quilts. Am working on two - one fussy cutting and the other using plain charms.

You haven't gone over to the dark side, you've come over to the bright side. I adore wild bright colors and fabrics. I have a terrible time picking fabric for my daughter because she hates 'em. She has to choose a fabric line and say, use THESE Mom! Don't get crazy on me! lol! I recently shopped for baby pastels to make 4 crib quilts (babies on the way in my family). I had to make 4 trips to the quilt shops. Each time I would get home, and 1/2 the fat quarters would be appropriately pastel baby stuff, and the other half in my bag were knock your eyeballs out. I love the traditional, the muted gold-brown-beige, the civil war, those are on my list too. But if if the color and the combos make you blink and say, wow, I never thought of doing that, I am so THERE, ha! mary6850 at gmail.com

I truly agree about giving. I have been reading a lot lately and one of the things was about giving and God will take care of my needs. We are in one of our money slumps this year, but our bills get paid eventually and we have food on the table, so I am taken care of in my daily needs. I wanted to do a contest, so I am doing an epattern so I can still give without having to worry about shipping.

I enjoyed reading your post about the "wild" fabrics , and I smiled to myself. I have drawers of muted fabrics, mostly tonals, which I have used for hand applique for years. Now, I'm ready to try some of those wonderful brights that you have in your photo--but I know I can't let go of my subtle colors, reproduction fabrics, blenders and tonals. You've put them all together so well. The applique quilt is gorgeous.
Thanks very much for your generosity; if I win I will pass some of it on to a woman who I am teaching to quilt.

Ooh, I love Simple Abundance! You are so right about giving. I was having a conversation with a friend a few nights ago about how Christian women love to give and help others, but we often won't ask for help because we don't want to bother anyone. Isn't it funny how we want to help others, but refuse to let others do the same for us. It really got me thinking about both sides of it.
I'm going to bookmark you for sure. I'm just getting in to blogging, so I don't have a blogroll yet...I'm still working on trying to figure out how to post! Just started my blog this weekend.

Such a great blog title, love it! I'm your neighbor to the east, in VA, and am a shepherd and farmer. The materials are beautiful and make a great gift away.

I'm trying to convince my hubby that quilting is a real therapy for me. He likes to hunt, so when he goes to Cabela's he takes me to a quilt shop. I can deal with that!!!! thanks for the chance to win!

Happy to see the verse in your post. Just got back from the first night of our missionary conference, so 'giving' is in the forefront of my thinking right now.
Thanks for participating in the hop; it's been fun and there are soooo many bloggers participating too.

After reading the blogs that are doing the appliques, I wish I was adventurous enough to start but I am not sure that I could pick the right fabric and then how would I feel about picking the best part for each piece. So I watch each of you and think maybe next month but so far have not done it, so thank you for making rethink this again. Great drawing thanks for that too.
